My first use case

This is an entry-level, simple how-to manual to create your first use case.
It delves into details of controlling Eclipse XML editor to imprint the basics of effective use.

To create your first use case, copy the empty.xml file in src/main/ucs folder to say withdraw.xml, and open the new file.

You can see that it is an XML file with the top level XML element uct defined, which is empty.

Place the cursor into the uct element (eg. at the beginning of the last line) and press Ctrl-space. The Eclipse XML editor gives you choice of what can be created in the document at the cursor.

Each use case must have a primary actor, so we need to create an actor first.
Choose actor to be created and enter its name ("Bank teller") and code ("teller").
Format the source (Ctrl-Shift-F) to keep it readable.
Now we have the following:

...
<uct ...>
        <actor name="Bank teller" code="teller"></actor>
</uct>

Now place the cursor at the end of the actor line, press Ctrl-space and choose uc-group to be created.
Enter the code of the actor ("teller") as primary actor.

Create use-case element within the uc-group start and end tags. Enter the goal of the use case ("Withdraw cash in local currency").
Add the code attribute to the use-case element (enter space in between the last quotes of the goal attribute and the '>' character of the start tag of use case, press Ctrl-space, and choose code) and put "CAS-100" into it.
Create success element within use-case, and step element within success.
Enter text of the use case step in between the step tags ("User identifies account.").
After entering some steps and final re-formatting the source, we have:

<actor name="Bank teller" code="teller"></actor>
<uc-group primary-actor="teller">
        <use-case goal="Withdraw cash in local currency" code="CAS-100">
                <success>
                        <step>User identifies account.</step>
                        <step>User identifies client based on the account number.</step>
                        <step>User verifies client's signature.</step>
                        <step>User enters amount.</step>
                        <step>System calculates fee and total amount.</step>
                        <step>User submits the transaction.</step>
                </success>
        </use-case>
</uc-group>

Save the source file (Ctrl-S), open the entry index.html page and follow the "Entry point list" link.
The new use case is displayed in the list.
Click on the use case goal, the detail of the use case is displayed.
